Key Features of the iniBuilds A340 Airliner

    🧑‍✈️ Realistic Flight Systems

The iniBuilds A340 Airliner features some deep and immersive system simulation, designed to replicate the real aircraft. You can expect the usual key features from our Airliner series to be included with the A340 Airliner too! Everything from a fully custom FMS, that contains the depth you’ve come to expect with SIDs, STARs, SEC flight plans and more.

To the custom LNAV/VNAV including; support of altitude/speed constraints, all of which is precisely flown by the bespoke autoflight system, ensuring a smooth journey from A to B. Please note that offsets will be coming soon.

We’ve also included CPDLC integration, allowing you to stay up-to-speed with your flight, with the ability to request ATIS/METAR and use the free-text functionality to speak with ATC units throughout the duration of your flights. Our team has ensured that the quality of modelling is up to the standards of our Airliner series as well, with a highly-detailed cabin model, 1:1 flight deck model and an array of crisp, low performance impact textures to go alongside. All of this adds up to an iniBuilds Airliner experience that should keep you coming back to this aircraft for a long time to come!

Moving on to some quality of life features - the aircraft includes a fully configurable autosave system, allowing users to set intervals for automatic saves, create manual quick saves at any time, and rename or delete files as needed.

CPDLC integration through platforms like Hoppie enables ATIS/METAR requests, mailbox functions, and full data-link communication with controllers, with the ATC source entirely user-configurable.

Additional system realism comes from geo-specific GPS jamming, which can impact TCAS and GPWS, while the EFB tracks aircraft maintenance parameters such as oil, hydraulic, battery, brake, and tire wear.

Legacy avionics are also represented with ISIS and standby instruments featuring caging animations, while both EIS1 and EIS2 options are supported to reflect the differences between classic CRT displays and modern glass cockpits.

The aircraft also includes a Para Visual Indicator for low-visibility operations, an integrated printer for flight plans, takeoff data, and weather reports, and dynamic cabin temperature simulation that reacts to pack output, ambient conditions, and door states.

There's also full terrain radar support, Navigraph and Lido chart integration, and GSX-compatible ground handling ensure an authentic and comprehensive operational experience, we'll dive into some more details on some of these below!

You can also read our "Systems Development Update", which goes into some extreme detail of the dev process that this aircraft went through in the build up to our release!

    ⚠️ECAM & Failures
The A340 Airliner is equipped with over 100 fully modeled ECAM pages covering critical ATA chapters including electrical, hydraulic, fuel, ice protection, engines, and navigation systems. Custom failure scenarios replicate real-world contingencies, from bird strikes to GPS jamming, with dynamic system degradations that challenge users to troubleshoot accurately. Combined with the EFB and in-cockpit interaction, this provides both a training and immersive operational experience, allowing users to engage with the aircraft’s systems at a highly realistic level.

    FlightSimulator2024_DJR7XEPTlX.jpg

    🛫 True-to-Life Cockpit: EIS1 & EIS2
The iniBuilds A340 features two cockpit configurations, each represented both visually and in systems logic:

    • EIS1: Classic CRT displays with a retro, low-res aesthetic, convex-faced PFDs, pixelated terrain masks, and traditional standby instruments (RMI, artificial horizon, altimeter, airspeed indicator). This cockpit also reflects its age with more “used and abused” panels, warmer panel lighting with defects (varying tones), old-style data loader visuals, and the option of a Para-Visual Indicator (PVI) instrument.
    • EIS2: Serving as the primary development focus, EIS 2 has been refined and is a modern glass cockpit layout, with advanced displays and navigation functionality.

EIS1 and EIS2 aren’t just visual differences, the EIS1 ND faithfully reproduces quirks like route curves only appearing when a direct-to or hold is inserted, the terrain radar visual appearance, all capturing the character of older Airbus avionics.

    EIS12ND.png.159023ffb6960c21c5bd4bf217b6b049.png

    💺 Cabin & Exterior Detailing
For the first time in an iniBuilds aircraft, light-based Ambient Occlusion bakes are applied throughout the cockpit, giving a realistic sense of depth. Tuned cockpit lighting, windshield rain with functioning wipers, and highly crisp PBR textures coming from thousands of photos and reference data all combined to make the cockpit feel alive. Users can also use functional tray tables, operational canopy windows, and an integrated printer.

In the cabin, the A340 Airliner delivers our most optimized and fully-featured 3D interior to date, now provided as the default option due to negligible performance impact. A default German airline–inspired three-class layout is included, complete with functioning galleys, lavatories (yes, with working flush buttons), ambient dimmable lighting, and seatbelt/no-smoking annunciators. The “preighter” option mirrors real-world A340 cargo conversion programs, loading the cabin with up to eight container types including live animals, medical supplies, food, and biohazards.

🛠️ Ground Service Equipment & Customisations
The iniBuilds A340 Airliner comes with a variety of interactive ground service equipment, including chocks, pitot/static port covers, engine covers, ASU, ACU, walkable engine and APU service stairs, and SATCOM antenna options. Additional features include brake fans, ice detectors, and multiple fuselage hatches and service panels that can be opened during walkarounds (fuel panel, potable water, gear doors, external power, and more). These walkaround interactables add another layer of realism for users who enjoy that walkaround phase as well.

    🎧 Immersive Sound-suite
The A340 Airliner comes alive with a highly detailed soundsuite, featuring high-fidelity recordings of the CFM56 engines. Cockpit noises, flap motor whines, hydraulic sounds, and ambient cabin effects combine to deliver an audio experience that closely mirrors reality. Engine start, taxi, takeoff, and in-flight operations are all accompanied by accurate acoustic feedback, all of which increases that overall immersion factor for every phase of the flight!

    🌍 Navigation & Flight Planning
Advanced navigation and flight planning are core to the A340 Airliner experience. Full MCDU, DCDU, and ACARS integration allows seamless data-link communication with controllers, weather requests, and route management. The aircraft supports CPDLC integration with Hoppie, SayIntentions, and BeyondATC, enabling real-time clearances and communications. Additional instruments between the cockpit options allow for different operational edges, including EIS1 and EIS2 displays, the ISIS system, standby instruments, and the Para Visual Indicator for low-visibility operations. The ND features a Minimum Off-Route Altitude (MORA) grid for enhanced terrain awareness, providing users with critical en-route obstacle information during every flight.

    FlightSimulator2024_DnPUKDWJZP.png.590731ab52e2a897434c77e31e2fe1ea.png

You can manage multiple flight plans at once, add your own custom waypoints, and fly full VNAV and LNAV procedures just like in the real world. The aircraft works seamlessly with Navigraph and SimBrief, giving you up-to-date charts, accurate SIDs and STARs, and all the route info you need. This means you can plan your flights properly, make changes on the go, and follow realistic procedures from departure to arrival, making every flight feel genuinely operational.

🏔️ Custom Terrain Radar & Weather
Situational awareness is further enhanced through custom terrain radar, wipeable rain masks, and a comprehensive suite of atmospheric effects. Realistic wing vortices, condensation trails, and vapor effects respond dynamically to weather conditions, while environmental interactions like rain on the windscreen or over-wing condensation contribute to a highly convincing visual and operational experience.

    📱 Feature-Rich EFB & GSX Integration
The A340 Airliner's Electronic Flight Bag has received a major overhaul, offering a clean, intuitive interface for flight planning, ground operations, and maintenance management. Users can control ground equipment such as GPUs, chocks, maintenance engine covers & so much more, while SimBrief integration allows direct flight plan import and auto pre-planning. Geo-referenced charts, Lido integration, and customizable day/night chart modes. The EFB also includes a comprehensive aircraft maintenance system, tracking wear and tear on oil, hydraulics, brakes, tires, batteries, and the APU, with a failure manager to trigger ECAM procedures, simulate bird strikes, or run custom scenarios. Dynamic dirt, weathering, and snow accumulation can be applied automatically or adjusted via a slider for immediate visual updates. The EFB also houses a takeoff and landing performance tool and full custom options management, letting you customise everything from autosave behavior to third-party integrations.

    ✈️ Flight Model & Performance
The flight model of the A340 Airliner has been carefully developed using MSFS 2024’s advanced aerodynamic systems, including a new fuselage object implementation that ensures accurate CFD-based behavior. On the ground, the aircraft benefits from the simulator’s new taxi physics, providing realistic weight and response through the nose wheel, with skidding possible under aggressive inputs. Wing flex dynamically adapts to fuel load, braking, and environmental factors, while the custom flap and slat simulation allows precise control in slats-only configurations. Engine behavior includes EGT, fuel flow, FADEC, oil pressure, and thrust refinements, mimicking the A340’s famously underpowered acceleration and climb performance. Fly-by-wire logic has been tuned for heavier, less reactive handling compared to modern Airbus models, while flare and rotation techniques are critical to avoid tail strikes. Every detail, from takeoff to touchdown, has been carefully calibrated to ensure that the aircraft behaves like its real-world counterpart.

    FlightSimulator2024_7Z3Pu7ZHRc.png.35475a289f5151cf5ab581989aaf4a6f.png

    🎨 Visual Effects & Immersion
The A340 Airliner’s visual effects have been designed to immerse the user fully. Engine heat blur, exhaust distortion, and realistic condensation effects bring the aircraft to life, while cold start smoke, dynamic over-wing vortices, and vapor trails react to environmental conditions. Combined with the highly detailed exterior and interior modeling, these effects elevate the aircraft beyond visual fidelity to deliver a fully engaging simulation.

    Hello,

Mike here - I’m the Head of Aircraft Development at iniBuilds, responsible for leading all projects at iniBuilds with a primary focus on the systems and flight model work. I have been a commercial pilot in various capacities for much of my 20-year long career in aviation. I bring a wealth of real-world knowledge to the table at iniBuilds in day-to-day development in leading our flight sim projects from A-Z.

Following Max’s deep dive into the initial art and visual side of the iniBuilds A340 Airliner last week, I’m excited to share some insight into what the technical team has been working on. In this update we’ll cover ongoing refinements made from community feedback (from last week’s post), new flight model advancements, and a look at the systems that will define how the aircraft feels to operate in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

    hifly.PNG

    ONGOING ART UPDATE

The art team is very motivated to get refinements in after seeing the community engagement over the past week, that they’d like to update you on some points shown off in the initial update that have received further refinements throughout the dev cycle.

Updated Engine Fan Blade Rotation Direction

The engine fan blades were spinning clockwise, when in fact they are supposed to spin counterclockwise during operation, this has been addressed to complete the feature implementation of the new blades. See them in action below.

    Continued Wing Flex Improvements

The wing flex is undergoing continued tweaking; however, we wanted to show you the latest state where we have increased the sensitivity of the wing and reduced the flex-amount on takeoff. This has been tweaked accordingly with reference videos, although bear in mind it will vary slightly depending on how much fuel is loaded, braking and wind direction, strength, and gusts.

    Further Updates to EIS1 Displays

Work continues on the EIS1 cockpit configuration, with refinements made to replicate its well-known low-res character (compared to EIS2). The latest iteration features degraded edges on the PFD’s attitude and vertical speed indicators, along with a pixelated terrain mask, giving the CRT displays their authentic old-school look. As before, it is still work in progress!

    EIS1P.png

    Rain & Weather Effects

Immersion is key, and realistic weather effects are part of that. The A340 Airliner features wipeable rain masks across the windscreens, complementing the suite of atmospheric effects already in place - from engine condensation to wing vortices and vapor trails.

    Emergency Slides

Along with our custom door handling logic that allows you to arm and disarm slides comes the slide deployment visual model. Following the usual logic, the slides will deploy automatically (or accidentally if you forget to disarm the doors) when the door is opened.
    image.png

    FLIGHT MODEL

    MSFS 2024 Flight Dynamics

The A340 Airliner’s flight model has been built from the ground up using MSFS 2024’s latest aerodynamic systems. A key feature is the new fuselage object implementation, which allows the simulator to account for the aircraft’s full shape - including its four engine pods - resulting in more accurate crosswind handling, sideslip behavior, and drag modelling.

    FlightSimulator2024_7Z3Pu7ZHRc.png

    Ground Handling

MSFS 2024’s new ground contact model powers the A340 Airliner’s taxi physics, giving the aircraft a more direct, weighty feel on the ground. Nose wheel inputs are now properly simulated - meaning overly aggressive tiller or rudder use can cause realistic skids, even leaving marks on the taxiway.

    Custom Flap & Slat Simulation

We’ve taken full control of the slat and flap system, writing directly to the simulator for maximum accuracy. This allows for precise handling in slats-only configurations - something especially noticeable on approach at lower speeds.

    image.png

    Engine & Performance Simulation

Engine simulation has been expanded to cover EGT, fuel flow, FADEC behavior, oil pressure, and consumption. Together with a refined thrust model, these parameters recreate the A340 Airliner’s famously underpowered feel. At maximum takeoff weight, expect slow climb rates - close to 40 minutes to cruise at times - and sluggish acceleration compared to more modern Airbuses.

    Flare & Rotation Technique

You will find that the A340 will need more of a flare than the A350 given it’s more aggressive FBW flare mode and will need correct rotation technique for takeoff. What do we mean by this? The standard Airbus rotation technique is for a smooth 3 degree per second rate and if you don’t follow this with the 340 you very much run into the risk of striking the tail as the 340 is very low on thrust for most take-offs it will need to be gently lifted off the ground.

    Fly-by-Wire Refinements

The A340 Airliner’s fly-by-wire system has been tuned to replicate the heavier, less reactive feel of the real aircraft compared to the nimble A320 family. Unlike newer Airbus models, the roll doesn’t “snap” instantly back to level when sidestick is neutral - instead, you’ll feel a smoother, more progressive handling response right down to touchdown.

We will be going into a further deep-dive on some of these topics in the 'Welcome to' video shortly before release, but this should give you a good flavour on what to expect!

    SYSTEMS
We’ve been hard at work bringing the iniBuilds A340-300 to life with an uncompromising focus on system depth and accuracy, ensuring it delivers a true-to-life experience for our community. Every system on the aircraft is being carefully modeled with a high degree of fidelity. If this is your first impression of an iniBuilds airliner, you can expect a full suite of functional systems, from a detailed custom FMS with SIDs/STARs, SEC flight plans, custom LNAV/VNAV, custom hydraulic and electrical systems and so much more! If you've used an iniBuilds airliner before, you'll find our usual systems simulations included, allowing you to pick up where you left off and spend more time exploring some new bits too!

    Onboard Printer

By popular demand, we’ve included a functional printer from day one. You’ll be able to print flight plan INITs, takeoff data, and weather reports directly in the sim, with physical printouts appearing on the tray table for easy reference in flight.

    Printout.png

    Standby Attitude Indicator Caging

The EIS1 cockpit features a fully animated caging mechanism for the standby attitude indicator, replicating the gyroscopic alignment in detail - a small feature, but one that adds to cockpit authenticity.

    Para-Visual Indicator (PVI)

The PVI, a predecessor to modern HUD/localizer symbology, is included as an option for the EIS1 cockpit. It provides lateral guidance during low-visibility approaches and can be toggled via the EFB.

    Paravisual2.png

    DCDU & ACARS Integration

Through integration with third-party ACARS systems, you’ll be able to communicate directly with online controllers via the MCDU and DCDU. This includes vertical and lateral clearances, weather requests, and even free-text messaging, bringing data link operations into the sim.

    FlightSimulator2024_qHkbSNNDzR.png

    MORA Display

The Minimum Off-Route Altitude (MORA) grid is now available on the ND, providing clear en-route obstacle separation awareness.

    FlightSimulator2024_DnPUKDWJZP.png

    Autosave

Our autosave feature from the A350 Airliner returns with expanded flexibility. You’ll be able to set custom save intervals, manually save flight states, rename autosaves, delete autosaves and reload progress at any time - ensuring your long-haul isn’t lost to a power cut or catastrophic failure.FlightSimulator2024_SjdKf4iYp3.png

    EIS1 vs EIS2 ND Logic

Differences between the two cockpit configurations extend beyond visuals. For example, a noticeable feature of the EIS1 ND is that route curves will not display unless a direct to or hold is inserted - a quirk of older Airbus avionics faithfully recreated here.

    EIS12ND.png

    Cabin Temperature Simulation

To model cabin realism, the A340 Airliner features a dynamic temperature system. Conditions are calculated from ambient temperature, pack output, and door states—so Antarctic turns feel very different to Dubai departures. The cabin is split into simple zones (cockpit, forward, mid, aft), each nudging toward its target with help from recirc fans and trim-air. On the ground, opening a door lets outside air swing the cabin temperature quickly, with the change happening dynamically.

    GSX Integration

GSX support has been rewritten for the A340 Airliner, with full customization directly via the EFB. You’ll have the flexibility to tailor how GSX interacts with the aircraft, from ground services to passenger flows.
    FlightSimulator2024_vvRMj6PUGa.png

    EFB Overhaul

The EFB has received a major update to its interface and logic, improving workflow across flight planning, loading, and navigation. Popular sections like Navigraph and LIDO charts remain, but layouts have been refined to handle the growing list of pages and third-party integrations.

    EFB.png

    Closing Notes
This update only briefly reflects the progress we’ve been making on the systems and flight model side of the A340 Airliner project.

From the quirks of the aircraft’s unique handling and performance to the depth of its cockpit options and integrations, it’s s shaping up to be another must have for your long-haul simulation fleet.

We’ll continue sharing more teasers and information into both systems and visuals in the coming weeks leading up to the release.

As always, thank you for your support.

    gulf.png
