For some reason my auto throttle won't engage. I follow all the steps in the tutorials, however the FMA will only announce man thr in amber. On the MCP the A/THR won't engage either.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you press the cheat TOGA button on far left side of the glareshield on takeoff?

The one that is left of AUTO LAND button.

I do. The throttles do spool up to the correct N1 setting yet man thr remains displayed in the fma.

If I press that button while airborne, the aircraft will enter go-around mode. With the correct fma indications, however still man thr.

Probably a stupid question but since I've not had your issue I'll ask - Assuming you have throttle hardware, after hitting the TOGA cheat button, do you manually advance your hardware levers to the full forward stop as the virtual levers do the same in the cockpit (I do)? I ask only as a guess that maybe the jet is still reading your hardware lever position at idle and gets confused and resorts to "man thr" on the FMA.

Another thing to ask: Did you turn on the ATS Switches in the overhead panel?

Yes I have. I even tried reseting the ATS system.

While trying to engage the ap in the air, I get the sound you normally get when the A/T is disconnected. Could it be that some of my hardware interfere?
