AP and AT disconnect / GO around when toggling from MSFS home screen

I was on an ILS approach to KDTW, setup and stabilized. I inadvertently hit the ESC key taking me to the MSFS home/options screen. When i RESUMED the sim, AP had disconnected and the AT disconnected and the throttle mode was disrupted (even though i didn't touch the TCA).. it automatically put the plane into GO AROUND mode and the approach couldn't be salvaged. Is this expected or intended behavior? IIRC, the sim does the same thing in the Fenix, but you can reset AP and toggle the throttle levers back to SPEED mode and all is well. It doesn't seem possible to recover in the A350.. 

i've also had WASM crashes the last two flights but that's known so won't explain that.
