No ATC and unable to click on ATC selections in MSFS 2020 on Xbox Series S

I am new to the flight sim and have been flying the A310. Now I am ready to move onto the A320neo V2. I get the mcdu and everything set up fine. But cannot reach ATC for clearance, I cannot select any choice in the ATC window. I have all the radios volumes up. What am I missing?

Have you selected the first call button, pulled out the first knob and turned it to full?
