Not sure if this is a bug, but here's what I have been seeing:

If you capture the localizer with Approach mode but have to execute a go-around, the plane will not capture the localizer on the second landing attempt. The only way it will recapture the localizer is if you disable and then re-enable Approach mode. Is this the correct behavior?

Hi @LukeFF

Could you record a video of you going through this process, start just before the go around, till your second attempt at re-establishing?

I just tried in the PW F at PHNL ILS Y 4R, and had no issues with establishing again on second attempt. Also on go around the FCU reverted to just ATHR only, having to re-arm desired modes after. So LAND on FCU should not remain ON after go-around anyways?

Just before G/A triggered:

G/A Triggered:

Thanks!

Don't have time for a video right now, so I'll try to explain:

- Was too high on approach, so I raised gear and flaps, then increased speed via the front panel back to green dot speed.

- Approach mode was kept active

- Flew the go-around procedure as directed by ATC

- When the localizer diamond showed on the display, it went right past the centerline without capturing

- Disengaged and then re engaged approach mode, flew back towards the localizer, and now it was captured

Its hard to say what happened without actually seeing a video, as it may have been the right mode wasn't armed, or the intercept angle was too much etc.

The proper way to Go Around is to hit the TOGA button, which would kick off LAND on the FCU. So if your LAND mode remained engaged, thats probably where the problem happened. Only A/THR should remain when you hit TOGA or executing a go-around:

On the FMA you would see is:

On the MCDU, it remains in APPROACH mode, and remains so for the rest of the attempt:

Here is me re-establishing, still on APPROACH mode on MCDU, and LAND re-armed:

Appreciate it. 🙂 Yes, sometimes it's hard to remember the procedure is slightly different from the A320 and just pushing the throttles forward.
