AP goes mad when using options screen

I have pressed the ESC key to take me to the options screen and upon return to the FS, the AP is not disengaged but it is not working properly, and the aircraft will veer off course as well as overspeed / loose attitude control. It takes disconnecting the AP and pressing profile / nav again for the AP to work properly again. Can you please check it?.
