Engine power boosted at high altitude

Hi iniBuilds, 

I did a flight over NZ last night in the P-40F and noticed that when I hit approx 8,600ft altitude the engine power suddenly boosted from about 35 to over 40 inches. I also noticed it would now max out around 70 inches where as down at approx 1,000ft it would only hit 55-60 inches max. Would I be correct in assuming that this is the single-stage supercharger kicking in? Not complaining or anything, just asking for my own interest.
