As soon as the overhead A/P switches are on (specifically the Pitch Trim switches) and the FCU (MCP) digits come on, make sure to preset an altitude higher than 0. Then you can preset the V2 speed and press the button inwards, then set the speed to the next speed you want to achieve on the next phase of flight. Either 250kts or any speed you may encounter as a restriction in the SID (210kts for example), you don't need to press the altitude knob for the second speed, only for the pre-set speed.

Just in case, not doubting your knowledge:

- Make sure the IRS is aligned before activating the pitch trim switches

- Make sure the altitude says anything other than 0, or the speed knob won't activate pre-set.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply back and help. Maybe stupid question, but are the Overhead A/P switches?

Hi Bill,

In the attached screenshots you will find the 'overhead A/P switches', the top left two, the Pitch Trim switches, can only be switched on when your IRS has aligned.

If you feel uncertain with some of the systems, this youtube channel provides excellent explanations for the A300 for each phase of flight!

But you can of course always ask here!

Regards,
Kevin
