not that I see, I've not used AFK, but have used time compression, and all I did to activate it was set it to auto and set 4x sim rate, and thats it, it just starts using time compression straight away.

I've found Auto means On! 🙂

I also can't see the route, and only the standard map shows for me., the others just show a blank screen with the aircraft symbol.
