Make sure that the VHF1 call button is pushed and the associated volume selector is pulled out so that it is illuminated and then rotated clockwise to turn up the volume. By default these selections are all off.

Strangely I never had any WASM crashes until 1.0.2. Now I get them every flight within the first 5 minutes or so. Can't even takeoff.
