From the manual... there's an option to change how this works:

Ran into a similar issue but didn't see what lead up to it. However, I wanted to add that in my case, I had AFK mode turned on so it should have paused when A/P disconnected but it did not. I eventually walked close enough to the room the computer was in to hear the A/P disconnect alarm going off but no matter what I tried, the aircraft was unrecoverable.
